What do you know about butterflies?

Tell me some facts about what you already know about butterflies or caterpillars. What would you like to know more about them?

  1. I have a question. Do boy and girl butterflies lay eggs, or just girls? Do caterpillars lay eggs?

  3. Caterpillars don't lay eggs. Butterflies lay their eggs on a leaf.

  4. That's right. They lay their eggs on leaves so that the caterpillar that hatches has the food that it likes to eat right there! Caterpillars eat a lot to get ready to become butterflies!

  6. That's great! I can't wait to see what your butterfly looks like when it hatches! Alex's last butterfly was HUGE! It took up the entire inside of his case when his wings were extended.

  13. We looked at him under a microscope at 10x. Matthew observed that the pupa looked like a brown leaf. Why do you think it looks like a brown leaf?

  14. Alex's pupa looked like bird poop.My looks like a brown leaf.So that way different animals don't eat them

  18. I found an answer to that question. Here is the link to the site.

    Butterflies do have the ability to wiggle and some also make noise as a defense mechanism to frighten away possible predators when they are still in the pupa stage.
