That's right. They lay their eggs on leaves so that the caterpillar that hatches has the food that it likes to eat right there! Caterpillars eat a lot to get ready to become butterflies!
That's great! I can't wait to see what your butterfly looks like when it hatches! Alex's last butterfly was HUGE! It took up the entire inside of his case when his wings were extended.

Butterflies do have the ability to wiggle and some also make noise as a defense mechanism to frighten away possible predators when they are still in the pupa stage.
I have a question. Do boy and girl butterflies lay eggs, or just girls? Do caterpillars lay eggs?
